Selling textbooks is a competitive business. You should be aware of resources for reviewing textbooks and typical content. You will find, though, that some topics-such as audience and context-change very little over several iterations of a text book. When you consider what textbook to actually use in a course, it should not be more than about 5 years old particularly because of the ways that changes in technologies have influenced both technical and business communication. If you are not planning to teach in the near future, choose a textbook according to what you think might be best for you, probably a textbook suitable for a technical writing course. Likewise, if the course you teach or may teach has the word technical (or some similar word) in the course title or enrolls students in subject areas such as engineering, nursing, computer science, or construction management, you choose a textbook with the word technical in its title. In choosing a textbook, be sure that, if the course you teach or may teach has the word business in the title or enrolls primarily business students, you purchase a textbook with the word business in its title.
